PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited or PTTEP has developed the marine science data platform called PTTEP Ocean Data Platform to collect marine science data, marking Thailand’s first time of using offshore petroleum platform as data collection station, which under this initiative, meteorological data and oceanographic data such as air temperature, wind direction, water temperature, and ocean current mapping, etc., have been collected, In collaboration with several partners including the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, Hydro-Informatics Institute (Public Organization) and Kasetsart University.

PTTEP Ocean Data Platform also shows microplastics level and is designed to monitor and identify aquatic species around the jackets of petroleum platforms to preserve biodiversity abundance. The platform also incorporates information of PTTEP's ongoing projects aimed at supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities. The available ocean science data can serve as key inputs to support marine science education and research in Thailand, and to enhance the effectiveness of ocean conservation and restoration plan. That includes the enhancement of ocean mathematical models to predict marine debris dispersion, ocean current patterns affecting coral bleaching and recovery, impacts of global warming and potential impacts to the ecosystem.

PTTEP Ocean Data Platform development is also in line with Sustainable Development Goal 14 of The United Nations: Life Below Water, to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainability. PTTEP Ocean Data Platform website is now available at oceandata.pttep.com.
